04.16.13 Premiere Performance: Hehmsoth's "Three Shades of Blue" composition was commissioned by the Kandinsky Trio and is written specifically for the Common Experience theme for 2012-2013: "A Global Odyssey: Exploring Our Connections to the Changing World." The Kandinsky Trio is celebrating one of the longest and most successful ensembles in the U.S. with over a thousand concerts of chamber music in the U.S., Europe, and Canada.

Hank joins the premier jazz ensemble in Austin, Texas, Times Tenon the last Wednesday each month at the Elephant Club. Times Ten is a one-of-a kind, 10-piece powerhouse of an ensemble, featuring the original music of long time Austin saxophonist/composer Dr. John Mills.

06.24.2012 Hank joins the Austin Symphony Orchestra for a Jazz Big Band Concert in the Park. In its tenth summer season, these free ensemble concerts take place in the Hartman Concert Park. A gift from the Hartman Family Foundation, these concerts are presented to the Austin community in thanks for its continued, generous support. more info

Hank frequently gives readings and talks in theTexas area as well as the rest of the country. Audiences will hear the first public performance of this work April 17 at One World Theatre, Austin, Tx, performed by the Knights of Steel, one of the most respected steelbands in the country. This work was funded in part by the Composer Assistance Program of New Music USA. Hehmsoth's composition received the JCOI Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute Special Recognition award in 2010 from Columbia University, an affiliate of the ACO American Composers Orchestra, and is published internationally by Drop6 Media, Inc. and available at Steve Weiss Music.

01.04.2012 Hehmsoth awarded New Music USA grant in music composition The Composer Assistance Program assists composers to realize their music in performance. The grant is project-based, and facilitates the public performance of Hehmsoth's composition Carlos' n Charlie's at the worldwide 15th Annual Inside Out Steelband Festival in Austin. Additional funding and support is supplied in part by the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division. 07.11.2011 Hank Hehmsoth received the Texas State University Presidential Award for Excellence in Scholarly/Creative Activities at the College of Fine Arts. The award is presented in August.
